Why do you need media training

Press media training is an essential element of the PR package.

You've spent months planning your launch or campaign. Key messages have been identified, journalists targeted, events planned but then, at the critical moment when you talk to the media it all falls apart - you fail to engage the journalist or, worse still, you fall into one of the traps and end up with a negative article splashed across the paper that can take months, even years, to rectify. This is why media training is essential.

With more than seven years media training experience, I regularly work with a number of blue chip clients in banking, personal finance, pharmaceuticals, retail, transport, accountancy, TV, advertising and the charity sector.

Why press training?

  • Even these days with the rapid growth of the broadcast media you are far more likely to talk the press than appear on TV or radio and my press media training courses reflect this.
  • Specialist press media training is vital because newspaper and magazine journalists have greater opportunity to paraphrase and translate. If you speak to a reporter for 20 minutes and you might give him or her 3,000 words. Of these only 30 or 40 will appear in the final article - but which ones? My media training sessions will help you control the outcome.
  • There might not be intimidating studio lights and cameras with a press interview but you have less control over what the journalist takes away and how he or she interprets your comments in the final article. As well as understanding the pitfalls you also need specialist press media training to know how to make your contribution stand out in the piece.
  • The press focussed media training I offer is extremely cost effective and requires very little technical support.
  • I work with a number of other press media training experts as well as broadcast media training journalists with a variety of styles, specialisms and backgrounds and can put together bespoke media training courses for one to 20 participants. I can offer extremely competitive prices for high quality media training courses because I have very low overheads.

what does press training invlove?

My press media training courses are intensely practical and results orientated. They aim to give participants an insight into how journalists work, what makes a story and what they should bear in mind when talking to a journalist - partly to avoid making common mistakes but also exploit the potential of every interview with a journalist as a very powerful marketing opportunity. These media training courses can also offer an introduction to the broadcast environment.

Participants in my media training courses have full opportunity to perfect their interview techniques.

Please contact me for suggested course media training programmes and costings.
